Subject Compilations of State Laws

For more than four decades, the two-time award-winning resource Subject Compilations of State Laws has been relied upon by hundreds of institutions to revolutionize state law research. During that time, Cheryl Nyberg was the guiding force as the editor of this award-winning product. She recently passed the editorial torch to Meg Butler, law librarian at Georgia State University College of Law, who has since added nearly 400 new bibliographic entries as well as two new subjects.

Family law is an area of the legal field concerning matters relating to marriage and partnership, divorce, adoption, surrogacy, child protection from abuse and neglect, and other domestic issues. In the last century or so, the transformation of certain definitions (e.g. wife, marriage, gender) and the recognition of women’s rights have dramatically changed the practice. Over the past few decades, one group has made it their mission to reform family law and the family court system further—fathers.
