It is not a new phenomenon. We may naturally think of the long-running television show Cops or the eerie chills of Unsolved Mysteries, but these television shows share a common spirit with the pulpy exploits sensationalized in 19th century penny dreadfuls and the broadsides sold at public executions, detailing the condemned’s crimes.
