Where to Find Scholarly Impact Rankings

Access to HeinOnline’s Scholarly Impact Rankings varies depending on your subscription status and where you are viewing them:

1. Subscribers: HeinOnline’s Scholarly Impact Rankings are accessible to subscribers of the Law Journal Library as a dedicated subcollection titled Scholarly Impact Rankings. From this section, researchers can browse rankings, access related articles, journal titles, and author profile pages, and, when logged in, download a CSV of the ranking being displayed.

Using the Rankings Tables

  • Ranking Name
The name of each ranking is displayed at the top of the page.

  • Ranking Calculations
Each ranking includes an explanation of the metrics and methodology used to generate the results. This information can be accessed via the link labeled “How is this ranking calculated?” located on the right side of the page.

  • Date Updated
Each ranking displays the month and year it was last updated. Rankings are refreshed with every monthly HeinOnline content release, during which all citations are fully reindexed. This ensures that the rankings remain current as new scholarship is published and cited.

  • Number of Entries
Each ranking includes 100 entries, providing a comprehensive view of the top results for that category.

  • CSV Download
When logged in to HeinOnline, subscribers can download a CSV containing the data shown in the table view. Researchers who are not subscribed or who are not logged in will not be able to download a CSV.

  • Interactive Data Tables
Each ranking appears as an interactive table, allowing users to explore the data. To sort by a column, click the filter icon next to its label. An arrow will indicate the sorting direction (ascending or descending). Only one column can be sorted at a time. For advanced sorting or data analysis, we recommend downloading the data as a CSV and using a program such as Microsoft Excel (CSV downloads are available only to HeinOnline subscribers).

  • Links to HeinOnline Content
HeinOnline subscribers can link directly from the ranking tables to author profile pages, journal titles, and journal articles.
